| Natrang Present Kashmiri play ‘Shah Pathar | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 27 Natrang presented first ever Kashmiri play ‘Shah Pathar’ written and directed by Moti Lal Kemmu at Abhinav Theatre, here this evening. The play is the product of a 30 day Kashmiri Theatre workshop conducted by Natrang in collaboration with Kemmu for Kashmiri migrants boys and girls. Introducing to the invited audience Natrang director Balwant Thakur said that it has been a Natrang’s long cherished dream to do a play in Kashmiri and he expressed his heartiest gratitude to Kemmu for creating this opportune moment for Natrang. He termed Kemmu a living legend of Kashmiri theatre and appreciated his selfless efforts for reviving the age old tradition of Bhand Pathar. He further said in future Natrang will do plays in Gojri, Pahari and Ladakhi also. The play Shah Pather was given written By Kemmu in the year 1993-94 after the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir. The story revolves around Sultan Badshah who after being ascended the throne had to suffer long illness due to wound in his right arm. All the doctors of the times fail to cure him. This promoted the queen to make far and wide announcements in quest of a person who could cure Sultan Badshah. A ‘Vaid’ Shree Bhatt offers to cure Sultan on the assurance that three of his demands will be fulfilled. The Sultan agrees to do so and Shree Bhat cures him. Later Sultan fulfills all this three demands and also bestows him with royal honors. Those three demands changed to whole lifestyle of Kashmir which later gave birth to the true sense of Kashmiriat. Kemmu while sharing his concern on the occasion about vanishing of an important theatre tradition of the country said that through this play as efforts has been made to take this tradition to a generation which has been rooted out of its soil. He expressed hope that this generations will carry it further. The artists who participated in the play included Seneeta Raina (Maskhara) Priaya Raina (Gopali) Vijay Malla (police-man) Chand Ji Kaul (Sultan-e-Kashmir) Bhasha Sumbli (Begam) Kuldeep Kala (street singer) Rakesh Suri (Namdaar Wazir) Samir Bhatt (Kaamdaar Wazir) Manoj Bhatt (Shree Bhat) Rajinder Suri, Ishfaq Ahmed, Sahil Kachroo (Fankars) Iirfan Chowdhary (Kriyadaar) Ramit Miam (Akh Khoochmut) Nasir Lateef (Alam Bradiar), Arti (Helper). The music of the play is scored by Ravi Shah and Rajat Bhan. Make-up by Anil Tickoo and lights of the play by Jai Ram. Neeraj Kant coordinated the show whereas Natrang actors looked after the stage and hall management. This play will again be repeated on Wednesday 28th of November, 2007 at 4p.m at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The prominent among those who attended the show included M.Y. Taing, Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi, Dr. Agnishekahr, Jugal Kaul and M.L Saraf. |
