The band was observed for grant of schedule tribe status to pahari speaking people of the state. According to press release business establishment, schools, colleges, offices and Banks remained closed, the vehicular traffic was also suspended lawyers boycotted the Courts. The Government employees remained on one day’s protest leave. All sections of Pahari speaking People observed one day’s Band peacefully and rallies were held at Tehisil and District Headquarters. In these rallies the Pahari Speaking people once again urged upon the central and J&K State Government to concede to the long pending demand of grant of ST Status to the Pahari Speaking People. The modification in SRO 294 in which more reservations were granted to SC and ST Communities who were already enjoying huge benefits is uncalled for. The SRO-294 stands totally diluted and that too during the period when Election Commission of India had enforced code of conduct due to bye-elections in Haveli Constituency of India is requested to take necessary steps and it is demanded that SRO-294 should in no case be modified. |
