Environment Committee for improved medicare facilities in GMC
JMC to identify permanent dumping grounds

The Environment Committee of Legislative Assembly has expressed concern over the improper arrangements for garbage dumping generated in Jammu municipal limits and directed the Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation to identify permanent sites for the purpose so that the people may not face any difficulty. The Committee also issued instructions to the JMC functionaries to take immediate measures to beautify the Jammu city limits and improve drainage and sanitation facilities.
The Environment Committee (EC) under the acting chairmanship of MLA Mr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sofi today inspected the sanitation arrangements in Jammu city and visited various vulnerable spots. The Committee also visited Government Medical College, Jammu and Gandhi Nagar Hospital and took stock of the facilities available for the patients there. The Members went round various wards and interacted with the patients and enquired about the medicare facilities being provided to them in these institutions. The Committee showed keen interest in solid waste and bio-medical waste arrangements of GMC and inspected the incinerated plant, which was functioning properly.
The Committee directed the GMC authorities to upgrade the existing sewerage treatment system, which does not cater the present needs. The plant should be upgraded as per the enhanced requirements. The Committee maintained that while preparing new projects pertaining to treatment plants, the Pollution Control Board and Environment departments should also be involved and their views must be incorporated to avoid future bottlenecks. It also suggested various measures to further improve the facilities.
The concerned officers briefed the Committee about the existing facilities and future proposals for upgradation of facilities for the general public.
Those accompanied the Committee included Chairman Pollution Control Board Dr. C.M.Seth, Director Environment Mr. S.M.Khan, Special Secretary Health & Medical Education Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone, Commissioner JMC Mr. Vinod Sharma, Health Officer JMC Dr. K.D.Singh, Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Medical Superintendent Dental Hospital Dr. Mohan Singh, Deputy Medical Superintendent, GMC Dr. Satish Sharma and officers of Assembly Secretariat and other departments.
