| Udyog Bhawan to be completed by March next | | CM asks JDA to start work in triple shift | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 28 Close on the heels of his surprise visit to the under-construction Udyog Bhawan at Railhead here yesterday, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today convened a high level meeting to discuss speeding up the multi-crore project and fixed March next as the deadline for completion of the significant project. The Advisor to Chief Minister, C. Phunsog, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Anil Goswami, Commissioner/Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Lokesh Jha, Secretary to Chief Minister, Pawan Kotwal, Vice-Chairman, Jammu Development Authority, Ashok Parmar and Director Industries, Jammu, Pradeep Gupta were present. The Chief Minister described the Udyog Bhawam as an important and the biggest upcoming project in the winter capital and underscored the need for its early completion.He issued instructions for taking up the work round-the-clock in triple shift to complete it by March next. He told the project executing agency, the JDA, to carry out all works, including doing interiors, simultaneously without waiting for one work to complete to start the other. He cited the instance of the Haj House in Srinagar which was completed in a record time of 300 working days only, notwithstanding weather constraints. The Chief Minister asked the Commissioner/Secretary, Industries & Commerce and Vice Chairman, JDA to assign monitoring of the project to an upright officer each of the two departments and coordinate various ongoing works on the prestigious project. He said he would be making surprise visits even during nights to ensure that work was going on apace. He said constant monitoring of infrastructure projects was important to avoid time and cost overruns. The contractors executing various works of the Udyog Bhawan were also present and asked by the Chief Minister to stick to the timeline for completion of the project. They assured him that the deadline would be fully honoured. As reported earlier, the 7-storey Udyog Bhawan will house all the departments and corporations engaged in the promotion and development of industries and working under the administrative control of the Industries and Commerce Department. These include J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Director, Industries and Commerce, SICOP, Director, Handicrafts, Director, Handloom, J&KSIDCO, Geology and Mining Department, J&K Handloom Development Corporation, J&K Handloom (S&E) Corporation, J&K Minerals Ltd. and J&K Cements Ltd. It would also have a conference hall and other facilities. |
