| Fortnight drive against child labour concludes | | Violators to be dealt severely under law: Betab | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 28 To make the people aware about child labour in tea stalls, dhabas, hotels, resorts and other business centres, the state government launched fortnight drive concluded here today. In this connection, a function was organized in premises of Labour Commissioner where Labour Commissioner S. Pritpal Singh Betab was the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Betab appealed all sections of the society not to employ children below the age of 14 years in restaurants, community halls, private houses and other business establishments. He said “Anybody found indulging in employing such children would be sternly dealt with under relevant law”. A fine of Rs. 20,000/- alongwith imprisonment upto one year would be imposed on defaulters, he added. Stressing on spreading awareness in this regard, he directed Deputy and Assistant Labour Commissioners to mobilize field functionaries for the purpose. He also called for involving religious and community leaders in this noble cause, adding containing the menace of child labour was a collective social obligation. He asked the officers to inform the Labour authorities on the engagement of child labour in commercial establishments a well as domestic servants so as to take action against the defaulters. |
