| ‘Electioneering in Poonch picking up’ | | Several senior PCC leaders campaign for party candidate | | Early Times Reporter Poonch | Nov 28 The election campaign for the lone Poonch- Haveli Assembly constituency, where polling is scheduled to be held on December 12, has started picking up. Following the death of National Conference sitting member G M Jan, bye election for the seat is being held, in which three candidates are in the fray. To garner support for its candidate Jahangir Mir, the Pradesh Congress Committee has deputed several senior party stalwarts for the campaign. They included former member Parliament, G M Mir Poonchi, Choudhary Lal Mohammed Sabir, MLC and Chairman JKPCC Scheduled Tribe Wing, President District Congress Committee Poonch Choudhary Zaffar Ullah and senior PDP leader Shamim Dar. These leaders of the ruling coalition, Congress- PDP, while addressing series of election rallies in the constituency urged the voters to ensure victory of Congress nominee for the sake of ensuring better development of the area, which, according to them, lagged behind in various spheres of life due to the ‘neglect in the previous National Conference regime’. Lauding the achievements of the coalition government in the state during the past five years which brought sea change in all fronts, these leaders said that the policy of Congress led UPA Government at the Centre and the Congress-PDP government at the state ensured peace and friendship with the neighboring country. The atmosphere of hatred was changed into that of friendship, cooperation and peace, giving a lot of relief to the people in the state, these leaders added. They further said that the Congress government at the Centre under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister ship of Dr Man Mohan Singh extended whole hearted support for the economic upliftment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir adding that the State is heading on the path of massive development and progress in all fields under the Chief Minister ship of Ghulam Nabi Azad. The credit for opening of vital Mughal road connecting Poonch with Kashmir Valley goes to the present government, they said, adding that opening of this road link would open up new vistas for development of the region. They urged the voters to reject the forces of exploitation and ensure victory of the Congress candidate with a huge margin. |
