| PDP condemns Khajuria's remarks | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Nov 28 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today asked the BJP leadership to rein in their functionaries in the State for dishing out immature and reckless statements against the PDP. Addressing a series of public gatherings in the Shangus constituency of district Anantnag, PDP Political Secretary Peerzada Mansoor Hussain has strongly condemned the recent remarks of the State BJP President Ashok Khajuria wherein he has accused the PDP leaders of issuing anti-national statements. He said the process of political reconciliation, what Mr Khajuria now portrays as an anti-state activity, was in fact pioneered by the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and carried forward by Dr Manmohan Singh. Mansoor said the PDP's demand for reduction of troops and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is in tune with the public sentiment and the party strongly believes that the time has come for taking such measures in the interest of peace. He said the fact that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are the biggest custodians of the State's interests has to be recognized and respected by allowing the democratic and civil society institutions to assert fully away from the shadow of guns. Mansoor said by resorting to the hawkish policies, the local BJP leaders are doing no good either to the State or to the country. "Such provocative and irresponsible utterances only add to the alienation of the people," he said and added that it would be in the interest of the State BJP if Mr Khajuria puts his own house in order instead of aiming too high. Responding to the demands of the locals Mansoor said the Government must ensure adequate potable water supply and timber in the remote villages of Shangus. He visited Kriri, Wangam, Kachmulla and Jogigund during his tour. |
