| PoK refugees take out protest rally | | Demand implementation 1954 cabinet order | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 28 Hundreds of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) refugees including women and children today took out a protest rally in support of their demands from Mirpur Sheedi Smarak at Bakshi Nagar Chowk and demonstrated in front of Divisional Commissioners office after passing through various bazaars of city of temples. The protestors include persons displaced from POK during 1947, besides those migrated from the areas, which were given away to Pakistan in 1965 and 1971 wars. Protestors sporting placards demanding implementation of 1954 cabinet order no 578c under which each government had ordered adoption of uniform scale for allotment of agriculture land of 12 acres of khusks or 8 acres of irrigation land. They were also demanding enhancement of relief package for non camp displaced families from Rs twenty five thousand to one Lakh fifty thousand. Raising anti- government slogans, the speakers alleged subsequent governments of playing ostrich towards their problems since last sixty years. They said that subsequent governments had played a fraud with the displaced families pushing over 2000 families in a quagmire of poverty and backwardness. Lambasting the governments, they said that even after lapse of sixty years the displaced families have not been given compensation for the property they left across LoC at the time of migration. Later, the protestors presented a memorandum of demands to Divisional Commissioner to be conveyed to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. |
