| CBI told to expedite sex scandal probe | | |

COURT DIRECTIVE: The J&K court directed the state to provide the copy of the objections to the litigants.
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday directed the CBI to expedite the probe against persons allegedly involved in the sex abuse scandal in view of the Supreme Court orders last week.
The investigating officer should expedite the lawful investigations as directed by the apex court on August 18, a Division Bench of Justices Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain and B A Kirmani said.
The Supreme Court had partially stayed the August 11 order of High Court in which the Bench directed the CBI to conduct custodial interrogation of persons against whom substantial evidence was on record.
The Bench, after perusing the fresh case diaries, observed, "We find no substantial progress has taken place in the investigation since the last hearing (August 11)."
It ordered that the communication received from the Sessions Judge (Srinagar) trying the first two chargesheets in the sex scandal case, be placed on file for consideration and fixed September 4 for the next hearing.
The state government has meanwhile filed objections to the writ of Amit Chauhan seeking reopening of the Anara Gupta case and handing over its investigation to the CBI.
The court directed the state to provide the copy of the objections to the litigants and listed the petition with the main case on September 4.
In the case of the show cause notice issued to local Urdu daily Tameel-e-Irshad, the Bench granted two weeks time to the newspaper's editor, publisher and printer to file their reply.
