| Join BSP; get a ticket from Dr Sat Pal | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 28: "Dr Sat Pal" is these days the most hotly discussed name in the political circles of "social engineering thoughts" drawing inspiration from Bahujan Samaj Party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. After Mayawati's huge public rally in the town last week, many would have thought joining the Bahujan Samaj Party. It is a good party with a social cause but one may have a look at the background of Dr Sat Pal before arriving at a logical understanding. The EARLY TIMES, a couple of months back had reported what happened with Dr Sat Pal. Some highlights are reproduced here below to understand background of the most interesting controversies doing rounds in the town these days: Till few months back Dr Sat Paul was a symbol of aggressive politics, a big name in the Dalit politics and warrior of a cause. Today he stands in oblivions. Neither has he that job, nor practice and not even the platform and the cause he espoused. The doors have literally shut upon him. Just back from Uttar Pradesh, where he had gone to have a final word with the BSP supremo Mayawati, Dr Sat Paul has returned with his words unheard. The Behenji who once insisted this doctor to leave his stable government job to actively work in politics did not offer him an opportunity of audience when he reached her with a genuine grievance. It was in around 2003 when Dr Sat Paul shot into prominence while espousing the cause of the Dalits and the oppressed. He began with his native area of Bari Brahmna and soon locked horns with the then health minister. Sat Paul wanted to pull a full drawn battle on clearly defined issues but his government job came in the way which put certain limitations on open politics. He met BSP leader Mayawati. She found a spark in this doctor and an excellent stuff for propagating, agitating and consolidating the Bahujan Samaj thought. Therefore, Dr Sat Paul was asked to sacrifice his government job and get into active politics. He honoured words of the Behenji and called it a day in the government service. The obedient activist was suitably rewarded. Soon he was made the Jammu and Kashmir State president of the BSP. The old warhorse Sheikh Abdul Rehman had to be axed for making way for this warrior. Then there was a vast field before Dr Sat Paul to preach and practice the politics of Bahujan Samaj. While on the one hand he moved on expand grounds in Jammu and on the other hand he made good connections with party's central leadership. It was around this time that Dr Sat Paul came in contact with a national general secretary of the BSP who promised to get his ward admitted in a prestigious college against come "fees". Dr Sat Paul paid the required "fees" but unfortunately even after prolonged wait the admission did not take place. When asked the general secretary to pay his money back, the party's hero in Jammu Dr Sat Paul was immediately sacked from presidentship and some little known face was installed in his place. Ever since he has been making desperate attempts to meet the party supreme Mayawati but all in vain. After making his last trip to Lucknow to seek an audience with Mayawati, Dr Sat Paul is back home as she did not spare time for him even as he was made to wait for four days. |
