| Govt to set up centre for monitoring content of pvt channels | | |
New Delhi, Aug 22 The Government has decided to set up an Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) for content monitoring of private television channels, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Replying to a written question, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said the EMMC would also check the violations of programme and advertisement codes in Cable Television Network (Regulations), Act 1995 and rules firmed there under.
The total cost of the project is Rs 11.65 crore out of which Rs 2.90 crore has already been released, he said.
"The project of EMMC is likely to commence in 2007, subject to availability of funds and other infrastructural requirements," Dasmunsi said.
Poppy in JK: The Government has information of illicit cultivation of opium poppy plants in a few places of South Kashmir but there was no report to suggest that it was on a large scale, Minister of State Sriprakash Jaiswal said in reply to a written question.
"Information available with the Government do indicate illicit cultivation of opium poppy plants in a few places in Anantnag and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
"There is, however, no report to suggest that the cultivation of poppy plants is on a large scale or that it is under the patronage of terror groups," he said.
He said the concerned agecies were taking all preventive measures to stop illegal cultivation or growth of poppy plants in the state.
