| Developments in Pak need close watch: Gupta | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 29 The former Union Minister of State for Defence and a senior BJP leader , Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has said that the developments taking place in the neighboring Pakistan needs a close watch and strengthening of security measures along the borders as also setting the house in order within the country, more so, in Jammu and Kashmir. It was unfortunate that the Congress led UPA government at the Centre is not only lacking vision but also buckling under pressures to save their coalition in this state by lowering the guards and demoralizing the forces at the behest of elements having communal mindset under which the boggy of violation of human rights is being raised, he alleged. This was stated by Prof. Gupta while commenting upon the taking over of the office of President as a “civilian” by General Musharraf and installing of highly controversial ISI head as the Chief of the Army of Pakistan. He said that one should not expect any good from these Generals who can do any wrong to divert the attention of their countrymen from their internal problems. He regretted that because of lack of vision of UPA government and having no Kashmir policy, the terrorism from Kashmir is taking its roots in other parts of the country also. In Jammu and Kashmir during winter months, the terrorists are at the receiving end but instead of giving of free hand to the forces to flush out the ultras, under pressure of the certain coalition partners and make believe considerations, the forces have been directed to “go slow” and take care of the sentiments of the fundamentalists. Referring to SPOs Prof. Gupta said that it was also highly intriguing that the SPOs are not being paid even the small monthly allowance regularly although this entire amount is reimbursed by the Centre. ‘While the surrendered militants are being provided bigger salaries and other assistance, the SPOs and members of the VDCs are being badly ignored in cases of their casualties and their families are left high and dry. |
