Peerzada highlights significance of renewable energy

Minister for Education, Science and Technology and IT, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today inaugurated 1-day seminar on "Renewable Energy Potential of J&K" organized by J&K Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA), Science and Technology department at Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine, Canal road Jammu.
Former Chief Secretary, Ashok Jaitley, presently designated as distinguished fellow with Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), delegates from Union Ministry of Renewable Energy, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), IIT Roorkee and various academic institutions and other dignitaries attended the seminar.
During the technical sessions experts threw light on topics like Renewable Energy Potential of J&K, Energy Metering & Energy Conservation, Remote Village Electrification, Incentives available with IREDA for development of small hydro power with reference to J&K, Watermill development, Solar Water Heating System applications with special reference to J&K state, Micro Hydro Power Technology, Wind Energy Potential-A J&K Perspective, Towards harnessing hydro potential of J&K state and Renewable Energy Projects under implementation in J&K.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister highlighted the significance of renewable energy, while referring to dismal energy scenario of the state. He said that the need of the hour is to conserve and make judicious use of energy as energy saved is energy generated.
Ashok Jaitley emphasized the need to shift the focus from programme oriented approach to technology transfer from the developed nations as also to attract funding of viable renewable energy projects from various financial institutions.
The basic objective of the seminar was to undertake implementation of renewable energy projects relevant to the energy needs and topography of the state as also to help the agency in drawing a road map for its futuristic activities.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer JAKEDA Shafat Sultan gave a detailed resume about the activities of JAKEDA.
