| CM inspects work on KP township at Jagti | | | Early Times Reporter Jagti | Nov 29 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today visited Jagti and Nagrota to inspect pace of work on construction of residential accommodation for Kashmiri migrants and asked the project executing agencies to complete the work within stipulated time. Taken up under the PM's Reconstruction Programme, the township at Jagti would comprise 4218 sets consisting of 176 blocks involving a cost of Rs. Rs.253 crores. Chief Minister was informed that the township, spread over an area of about 700 kanals of land, would be completed in August 2009. He expressed satisfaction over the pace of work and asked the construction agency to take up work in double shifts. He also called for engaging local laborers. The important aspect of the township is that it is coming up on an area situated between a river and forests, presenting a near Kashmir like location. Each block would have a separate park. The township would have a hospital, 3 schools, 3 community halls and 40 parks. The facilities of sewerage, drainage, drinking water and electricity are part of the integrated project. He said it was a massive project and the location was selected after careful identification in keeping with the topography of the area. He said the township would come up beautifully and address the accommodation problem of the Kashmiri migrants till they return to their homes and hearths in the Valley. At Nagrota, 384 four-storey flats comprising 12 blocks are at the advanced stage of construction and of these 128 sets would be ready by January 2008 and the remaining 256 by March next. The total cost of the project is Rs.16.90 Crore. At Jagti, the Chief Minister also met a deputation of local people and listened to their problems. He issued on the spot instructions for resolving of some of these including drainage of water during rainy season. He was informed that 60 per cent of the 7.2 KM long protection bund had been completed while the rest would be finished by March 2008.
