A day before his retirement from the government services, the Financial Commissioner Revenue, Gurmukh Das Wadhwa has submitted to the government his recommendations on rehabilitation of refugees drawn from West Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
A 1972 batch IAS officer, son of soil, GD Wadhwa is retiring from the government services tomorrow. He was senior to the present Chief Secretary BR Kundal but could not reach the top post as just few months had remained for his superannuation when the CS was appointed.
The Wadhwa Committee constituted by the Government to look into the problems of the refugees from POK and West Pakistan completed its report well in time and the same was presented to the Chief Minister , Ghulam Nabi Azad, here today.
The report was presented by Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Mr. G.D. Wadhwa. The Chief Secretary, B. R. Kundal and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Anil Goswami were also present.
Later, the Chief Minister had a preliminary review of the recommendations made in the report at a meeting attended among others by Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary Revenue, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Secretary Law.
The recommendations of the committee would be thoroughly examined by the government.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had convened on May 11 last year an All Parties meeting at Srinagar to discuss the problems of the refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 from POK and West Pakistan. The meeting was aimed at arriving at consensus on political issues relating with the refugees. The Government had also constituted a committee under G.D. Wadhwa to look into the administrative problems of the refugees and furnish its recommendations.
