On the roads of our city and countryside, there is an irony of fate. The Municipal Corporators and district and block presidents of political parties have a VIP status statement but the higher officers of judiciary are clueless about their protocol.
Around seven months back, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had asked the government to inform the court about inclusion of Districts and Sessions Judges in the category of red flasher lights but a statement is yet to come. Interestingly, the sale of beacon lamps in the markets is rampant which, obviously, are being bought like hot cakes by the corporators, councilors and obscure political persons as there is no check on them.
A Division Bench of J&K High Court Jammu Wing comprising Acting Chief Justice Nisar Ahmed Kakru and Justice Virender Singh today directed the authorities concerned to appear before the Court regarding the inclusion of District & Sessions Judges into the category of "red-flasher lights user on the top of the Vehicles".
Earlier SSP Traffic produced a road map, responding to it Advocate General Mr. A H Naik submitted that it needs to be got examined by the authorities and seeks two weeks time for the purpose which was granted by the DB.
DB took serious note of the authorities and observed that order dated April 10, 2007 casts an obligation upon the Advocate General to make a statement about the inclusion of the District & Sessions Judge into the category of "red flasher lights user on the top of vehicles", but he has failed to respond despite lapse of months together with any cogent reasons, leaving no option for the Court, but to direct the authority concerned to appear in the Court. DB further observed that at this stage Advocate General seeks two weeks further opportunity to come-up with the answer. In the interest of justice, request is conceded too and directed Registry to list immediately after two weeks.
