| Farooq sings for Azad | | Says: Aaj Jane Ki Zidd Na Karo | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 29 The stage was set. The location has ambience. The atmosphere was entertaining but had political undercurrents. And the heartthrob in Dr Farooq Abdullah resists an offer to sing in presence of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad –it is unimaginable. It was the occasion of diamond jubilee celebrations of the city's elite Amar Singh Club. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad graced the occasion in his capacity as president of the Club. Former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, who too had remained its president, literally stole the show last evening as if singing has become his favourite pastime. Though the club had specially flown in artists from Mumbai but when one of the prominent hoteliers among the audience urged Dr Farooq Abdullah to present some soulful number Dr Farooq Abdullah could not resist the temptation. Initially he hesitated but later he gave up and responded to the audience's request doling out choicest ghazals from his bouquet. He started by singing one of his all time favourite ghazal 'Aaj jane ki zid na karo'. Dr Abdullah's performance was appreciated by large number of audience present on the occasion. As the evening went on Dr Abdullah sang few more ghazals and mesmerized audience with his soulful performance. Soon after Dr Abdullah came down from the dais he received a standing ovation by none other than Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Azad also gave a warm hug to DrAbdullah.Azad was also seen enjoying the ghazals and appreciating former Chief Minister on number of occasions Later in his speech, the Chief Minister said that social, literary and cultural organizations play an important role in harmonious growth of the society enriching its ethos. He said that the club should set up its branches at district headquarters also to provide place for entertainment for tourists and locals. He said that government has launched massive infrastructure development in key sectors of education, road connectivity, power and water supply and health across the state, adding that the clubs could contribute by setting up their branches in pomotin of entertainment and leisure tourism in the districts. He said that the state has vast potential for promotion of adventure, sports, pilgrim and leisure tourism and efforts are on to tap this potential for generating employment and economy. The Chief Minister while greeting the functionaries and members of the club on its 75th anniversary assured all possible support in growth of the club. |
