The former J&K Chief Minister and NC patron, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has assured the Forum of Lease Holders/Occupants of Nazool/Govt. Lands full support of the National Conference in their struggle against the injustice being meted out and hardships being caused to them by the present government action in serving demand notes at exorbitant rates to be charged from them in conferring ownership rights on them on the lands under their occupation for a long time, through genuine lease in their favour.
Dr. Abdullah told the FONL deputation that called on him today, that he would ask the National Conference legislature party leader and leader of the opposition in the state assembly, A R Rathar to raise their issue in the forthcoming budget session of the assembly, on priority bases and carry the debate in this behalf to its logical end to ensure that justice is meted out to the aggrieved parties, under the distorted implementation of Roshni Act, originally passed during the NC government. Appreciating the concern and distress caused to the aggrieved parties, who are being asked to pay exorbitant rates of lands under their occupation, the NC leader told the deputationists that the National Conference had enacted the law in this regard with a view to give relief to the people by regularizing their unauthorized occupation of lands, by charging nominal rates as also to spend the money thus collected on the power development projects, to give Roshni to the people. But by amending the law and demanding huge amounts from the lease holders of lands the present government has turned the Roshni Act into an act of darkness.
A deputation of FONL led by its Chairman Inderjeet Khajuria and comprising S Gajan Singh, President S S Pathania General Secy. Ajay Bakshi, Iqbal Khullar, Somnath Sharma and Rajinder Singh had today called on Dr. Farooq Abdullah to present their grievance before him by giving him a written memoranda in this behalf. Dr. Abdullah advised them to meet the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Mr. A R Rathar, whom he will be asking to do the needful in the matter.
