A decision at high level has been taken by the state administration and a plan is being prepared for shifting of the residencies of the Chief Minister, other ministers and VIPs from the present site at one end of the Residency Road, to some more spacious place at one end of the city. The location selected for building Chief Minister's official residence has been at the present site where office of RTO Jammu is located, near Topi Bangla beside Jammu cantonment. This step is aimed at decongesting the Jammu city and to avoid inconvenience to the people at large in the old city, due to frequent traffic blockades, as a result of the movements of Chief Minister and other ministers, which necessitates holding up of traffic for a long time. The office of District Development Commissioner is also being shifted from the present site, most probably to Gho Manasan, where already revenue complex has come up and where huge space is available, it is learnt from reliable sources. The sources further revealed that the proposal is already under active consideration of the authorities to give entry to the civil secretariat from its backside on the gate leading to the vigilance offices. It is proposed that the present entry gate of the secretariat be close and a high wall be raised there for the purpose of safety and security, while the private small vehicles and three wheelers would be allowed to pass through the road along the presently main gate of the secretariat. This will spare the commuters the ordeal of passing through the zigzag dinghy road and covering along distance while reaching from opposite Ranvireshwar Temple to Dogra hall. The shifting of Chief Minister's residence from the present site will meet the long pending demand of the traders as well as the people at large in the old city, who have to bear the brunt of movement of the Chief Minister from his residence. Which leads to traffic blockade as well as adversely affects the business of the city.CM's official residence to be soon shifted from present site Jammu November 30, 2007: The traditional seat of power in the winter capital of the state, for last 60, years is all set to be shifted from the present site at one end of the Residency Road.
