| Tony in town | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 30: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Ashok Jaitly, popularly known among his peers as Tony, was in the town today enlivening memories of the past. However, his presence at the BJP headquarters here in the town triggered rumors that he might have joined the party. Later sources in the BJP disclosed that Ashok Khajuria had invited Ashok Jaitley to the party headquarters over a cup of tea. The sources said that there was no question of Ashok Jaitley joining the BJP because his political views, as a supporter of the National Conference, were diametrically opposed the ideology of the BJP. The sources said that two sides had a detailed discussion on the intriguing change in the demographic character of the state while reference was made to the increase of population of the Kashmir valley by over 11 lakhs as compared to the Jammu region in the 2001 census when in earlier surveys the increase ranged between four to five lakhs. During the discussion Jaitley displayed his support for the National Conference demand for the restoration of greater autonomy. |
