| BJP’s meet with intellectuals stands postponed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 1 The programme of the BJP to initiate what it calls meet with intellectuals for making people aware of the policies of the party vis-à-vis the Kashmir issue, militancy and other security and political related matters has been postponed. The programme was scheduled to start in Jammu from the beginning of the current month and it may now be held somewhere in January. According to the BJP Chief,Ashok Khajuria,”the programme had to be postponed because of busy schedule of senior BJP leaders in Himachal and Gujarat where the Assembly elections are to be held shortly.” Khajuria said that the programme had been scheduled to get all prominent intellectuals, irrespective of their creed or political ideology, in direct interaction with the BJP stalwarts including Ms Sushma Swaraj,Aroon Shorie,Arun Jaitley,Jagmohan and M.A.Naqvi. “Our purpose is to acquaint the intellectuals with the BJP’s policies so that these very intellectuals could explain to people, including women and the youth, the essence of our policies, “Khajuria said adding “such an exercise was much required in view of attempts being made by our political opponents at painting the BJP in black colours.” In reply to a question he said that “our efforts are to win over the support of various ethnic groups and communities and we are happy that a large number of people belonging to the scheduled Tribe and the scheduled caste had joined the BJP in recent months.” He said it was the result of changed outlook of people that the BJP unit in the Kashmir valley had started receiving people’s support and “we plan to field the party candidates in more than 15 constituencies in the Kashmir valley.” |
