Various organizations and institutions observe World AIDS Day

Various organizations across the state, particularly the Jammu region today observed ‘World Aids Day’.
NGO - J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM) today distributed information brochures and other informative material about dreaded HIV/AIDS virus and about the preventive measures about AIDS during a awareness rally organized here on December 1 as World AIDS Day.
Keeping in mind the theme of the year- Stop AIDS -Keep the Promise – Leadership, the volunteers of the JKSPYM encouraged the passersby and by standers to take lead to prevent in HIV infection. As it has been becoming an epidemic due to the lack of the awareness and taboos associated with disease, they stressed. It is to mention that the said society has rendered its voluntary services for the last 10 years in this field after being founded by some scholars from JNU. Besides Rakesh Kumar secretary of the NGO Those who spoke on the occasion were Deepak Kumar and Sanjay Jandial, Shailendra Thakur.
On the occasion of World Aids Day the students of SOS Hermann Gmenier School organized different programmes to create awareness among the students regarding AIDS. Students on this occasion delivered speeches and organized a quiz competition, skits and postermaking contest.
Neha Kumari, Palvi Katoch and Parakriti Sharma bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Principal of the school, Mohd. Ayub on this occasion stressed upon the students to come forward and create awareness among the people and in society about Aids so that this dreaded disease can be eradicated.
World Aids Day was also observed in Leh also which was jointly organized by Health Deptt, LNP and RDY organizations. To mark the occasion, the day was started with a rally participating school children from various educational institutions, doctors and religious heads.
Governor Leh, Rev. Chhogon Rimpochey was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the organizing agencies for holding the aids day which he said that its is relevant social issue of the present day.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma has said AIDS is one of the most challenging public health problems in the world, which has social, economic and development dimensions. He said it has already taken an epidemic form globally and has spread its tentacles throughout the country adding that the state of Jammu and Kashmir being no exception.
Addressing functions at Transport Yard Narwal and KC Public School here today, organized by J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (JKSAPC) for celebration of World AIDS Day, the Minister said that the World AIDS Day is observed every year on Ist December to create awareness about gravity of the problem. He said this year's theme is "Stop AIDS: keep the promise".
He appealed to all sections of the society to join hands and pledge total commitment for ensuring a sustained fight against this dreaded disease, which is threatening the very existence of mankind.
Director AIDS Control Society Dr. M. A. Wani in his address said that the main objective of celebration of this day is to inculcate among the general masses the gravity of the problem, various preventive measures they need to adopt as responsible citizens of the state for controlling and checking the spread of the diseases.
A large number of people including school children and NCC cadets participated in the functions and took oath that the message for prevention from this dreaded disease should be spread in their areas so that people would not fall prey of this dangerous disease.
On the occasion, skits and songs for awaring masses about AIDS were presented by the school children. .
All India Mahtma Gandhi Nation Foundation also organized a function at their head quarters to celebrate AIDs Day. Chairman All India Mahtma Gandhi Nation Foundation, Zahir Abbas Bahtti was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Aids is a dreaded disesase which is posing a great danger to the whole world. It is important to control it at various stages every effort in fight aginst the HIV/aids epidemic is welcomed.
On the eve of world AIDS prevention day, Army today organized health exhibition cum demonstration where the troops, their families and ex-servicemen were educated about the preventive measures of this deadly infection.
At 166 Military Hospital the troops were educated through audio visual aids about the prevention of the disease.
With technical assistance from the local 136 Station Health Organization this hospital also arranged poster exhibition and lectures to give in-depth knowledge to troops about the preventive measures.
They were educated about unprotected sex, unsafe blood transfusion, contaminated needles and transplacental spread.
JCOs and Jawans from various units and formation in jammu region participated in today's activities. Military Hospitals are nodal agencies, which act as Information, Education and Counseling modes for such activities.
The hospital not only imparts preventive education but also provides treatment for entitled AIDS infected patients in the form of Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) and supportive drugs. It is fully equipped and staffed to handle any AIDS related health emergency.
TRUE to their word the 166 Military Hospital under the guidance of their Commandant, Brig K R Salgotra, on the occasion of World AIDS Day today dedicated to contain the spread of the deadly disease. The ‘WORLD AIDS DAY’ is being observed all over the world today with the slogan ‘Take the Lead, Stop AIDS- Keep the Promise’ issued by World Health Organization.

On World Aids Day a Seminar on Aids and Adolescence was held at Tiny Tots Hr. Sec. School, Sainik Colony under aegis of Youth Red Cross Wing, Jammu Distt. A group of Doctors from ASCOMS Youth Red Cross Wing comprising of Dr. Sunil Raina, Dr. Harshdeep and Dr. Sugam took part in it. Dr. Harshdeep enlightened the students about the problems of adolescence and how to tackle them. Dr. Sugam followed this by telling the students about the growing menace of the dreaded disease syndrome known as AIDS and how to prevent it. This was followed by a question answer session by Dr. Sunil Raina which was very lively with students asking a whole lot of questions.
The programme was highly appreciated both by the students and the group of doctors present and the days proceedings culminated with a vote of thanks by the Dr. Vikram Handa, the Principal of Tiny Tots Hr. Sec. School, Sainik School.
As part of World Aids Day celebration, Big 92.7 FM in association with J&K State Aids Prevention and Control Society (SAPCS) and NCC organized an Aids awareness programme among the truck drivers and labour community of Narwal today.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt Mangat Ram Sharma was the Chief guest whereas M A Wani Director SAPCS was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Pt Mangat Ram Sharma in his address laid the stress on spreading the aids awareness among the illiterate and far-flung areas because they are more vulnerable to this dreaded disease. He said that it is found that this disease has spread its roots mostly in underdeveloped and developing countries of the world. He further said that those who travel frequently eg drivers etc should be taped and complete knowledge of this disease should be given to them. He said that for the convenience of infected persons the Union government has approved two centers one at GMC and another at Srinagar medical institute where these patients can get free treatment till their death.
M A Wani laid stress on the measures of prevention and control of this disease. He said that to make check on it the society is advertising through all mediums to create awareness among the common masses.
Jagmeet Singh Bahri cluster head Big FM said that HIV and Aids is a cause of concern not only because the numbers of HIV infection is increasing but also because there are various myths and misconception related to them.
