| Babu Singh stresses: maintain good physique for healthy mind | | Athletic meet concludes at Kathua | | Early Times Reporter

Inter school athletic meet organized by District Youth Services and Sports Department, Kathua which commenced from 26th of Nov. 2007 concluded at District police Lines, Kathua today.
Minister for Youth services and sports Mr. Babu Singh was the chief guest on the occasion.
About 1500 students participated in the athletic meet.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Babu Singh wished and congratulated the participants and physical education teachers for successful completion of the athletic meet. He said that the participants from rural areas have more stamina and physical fitness as compare to the participants from urban areas. He said that the participation of private schools is negligible and if it remains so the next time, the action will be taken against the erring schools. He said that all private schools should deposit the prescribed games fund in the district office of youth services and sports. He said that he had directed the District Youth Services Sports Officers to issue the orders for the depositing the games fund.
Addressing the students the minister said that they have to maintain the balance between the academic and sports activities to achieve success in their lives. He stressed upon the student community that it was essential to keep the body for a healthy mind and as such their interest in games was as mandatory as in following academic pursuits.
He thanked the police department for arranging the athletic meet in the district police lines, Kathua as the district sports stadium is under construction. He said that in the district sports stadium under ground pop system will be laid which will help in keeping the ground green in all seasons. He said that Kathua stadium will be the 12th such stadium in the country which would be having under ground pop system.
A scintillating cultural programme by the students was also presented on the occasion.
Later, the minister distributed medals and trophies among the winner and runner ups.
Among others SSP Kathua S. J.P. Singh, District Youth services and Sports Officer, Kathua Sh. Ram Chand, Dy.SP Khalil Poswal, Sh. S.D. Singh, Rtd. Physical Teachers, physical education teachers prominent citizens and a large number of student present on the occasion. |
