| Cash awards for medal winning climbers | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 1: To encourage the climbers and give a boost to the game, the Tawi Trekkers, a premier trekking club of the state, shall award cash prizes to the climbers who won medals in the recently concluded National Sport Climbing Championship at Uttarkashi. An announcement in this regard was made by chairman of Tawi Trekkers and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anil Goswami when the medal winners called on him. “Shivani Raj Kaith, who became the new national sub-junior girls champion in `lead’ climbing and also won a silver medal in `speed’ shall be honoured with a cash prize of Rs 10,000,” said general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria, adding, “Rajeev Sharma, who won two bronze medals in the sub-junior boys category shall be presented a cash prize of Rs 5000”. The prize winners shall be honoured on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee function of the club to be celebrated on January 6 at Abhinav Theatre, here. Meanwhile, the chairman further announced that a J&K climber winning a gold medal in any international competition next year will get a cash prize of Rs 25,000 while the silver and bronze medalists will get Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. All the climbers of J&K irrespective of their club affiliations will be eligible for the awards. This was announced by Ram Khajuria, general secretary of Tawi Trekkers. |
