Sachin hits century as Haryana makes 247 for 4

Jammu | Dec 1: After initial hiccups of losing three wickets for 54 runs, Haryana made a fine recovery through their star batsmen, Sachin Rana and Sumit Sharma, who guided the side to commanding position of 247 for four at the end of day one play in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match against Jammu and Kashmir underway at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
While Sachin is still at the crease making brilliant 108 runs studded with two sixes and 13 boundaries, Sumit lost his wicket to pacer Samiullah Beigh soon after completing his half century (off 81 balls, 8x4). When the stumps were drawn by the umpires due to bad light at 4.50 pm this evening, Sunil Vishwanathan had already settled down making 28 runs off 48 balls with help of a boundary.
Both Sachin and Sunil, who added 91 runs for 5th wicket unbreakable partnership, never looked under pressure though the hosts bowlers made all out attempts to disturb them through frequent field and bowling changes. Making no mistake, both these batsmen played confident power packed but clean shots to all corners of the field.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opted to field in the two-hour delayed game in the morning due to wet outfield, J&K succeeded in their game plan when skipper Vijay Sharma clinched the first three wickets for just 54 runs on the board.
But sensible play by Sumit Sharma in the company of Sachin Rana brought Haryana out of the troubled waters and steadily pushed their innings towards a big total. Both added 102 runs for the fourth wicket partnership in mere 98 minutes facing 136 deliveries before Sumit was bowled by Samiullah Beigh at 50.
Middle order batsman Sachin was not in a mood to give up and did not spare the bowlers whosoever came his way. It was evident from the fact that he hit spinner, Pardeep Bali to over the fence twice that too in a single over.
However, both Sachin and Sunil kept the star attraction in the Haryana camp, Joginder Sharma waiting in pads. Joginder who came into limelight after bowling the last over of World Champion Indian innings in Twenty20 against Pakistan was to come at No. 7 position.
He remained busy talking to the young fans, who were gathered around the Haryana dressing room for a glimpse of Joginder Singh, who, however, was friendly with his young fans.
Meanwhile, J&K fielded a 12-member team for today’s match floating the BCCI norms of a 14-member squad. The JKCA also made a couple of changes in the team which was earlier named for two matches, including that of against Haryana. The 12-member team submitted with the scorer was not even signed by the captain.
