| Kingpin of 2006 Srinagar sex scam, Sabina intends to write biography, claims herself to be victim, resolves to rid society of sexual evils | | | Early Times Special Correspondent

Whether it is a case of “Nau Sou Choohe Kha Kar Billi Haj Ko Chali” or a genuine transformation of mind, the notorious kinpin of much talked about sex scandal of Srinagar, which has rocked the political circles, civil society, bureaucracy and judiciary in the state, Sabina has expressed her resolve to work as a social reformer, to nip the evil of sexual exploitation of women including small girls, in Kashmir. In her this mission, Sabina would like to join hands with the hardcore secessionist and Islamic fundamentalist woman leader of Kashmir Aisya Andrabi, the Chief of Dukhtrane Mila.
In an interview given to a correspondent of a newspaper in Kashmir, Sabina conveyed here resolve to expose real kingpin behind the sex racket, which she is alleged of operating in Srinagar. Although Sabina is illiterate, she has claimed that she would be writing her autobiography. She would expose the big hand behind the sex scandal and claimed that she was actually a tool who was actually used by the contenders of Kashmir political war. “Once I am acquitted, I will fight against the exploitation of poor and innocent girls.” In her interview which was carried in the Srinagar jail where 35 years old Sabina is lodged, she alleged that the real kingpins in the scandal are still free and have built huge assets, as they have been bestowed with big estates and costly gifts.
Sabina has also blamed the media for its negative role viz a viz her involvemenet in the sex racket that surfaced in Srinagar in 2006. She blamed that the media defamed her repeatedly publishing stories with her pictures, dubbing her as the kingpin of racket of luring innocent young girls into the flesh trade and offering their sexual services to the big customers. Some big wigs including two former Ministers some MLAs and a high bureaucrat, a known advocate and some police officers were charge sheeted and arrested by the police and are being prosecuted for their involvement in the sex racket, which Sabina was reported by the media to be operating. Sabina has alleged that nobody had bothered to dig in and find out the real players of this dangerous game. She has further alleged that she was pressurized to name politicians and bureaucrats from a long list as involved in the scam.
Tracing her own roots to Afghanistan’s capital Kabul Sabina claims that her grandfather who had migrated from Kabul had settled in North Kashmir’s Uri town. She also related a long story to explain how she got involved in the sex scandal. She told that a government gunman had duped her husband of huge money transaction of selling a house in Srinagar to him, claiming to be its owner. But the house ultimately turned out to be belonging to a migrant Kashmiri Pandit family. “To get money back I approached the police, who started exploiting me. This shattered my life and my husband abandoned me. Then I scarted a small workshop for skilled girls, but that too proved a failure.”
She hinted at entrenched rackets of exploitation of girls saying that many police personnel and government offices in various departments are mired with sexual exploitation of girls.
In the entire story related by Sabina she tried her best to project herself as the victim of the society and the system instead of being an exploiter herself. Whether there is real reform in her and her conscious has stirred to repent for her wrong deeds or it is an attempt on her part to retrieve her lost reputation and get back acceptability in the orthodox society of Kashmiri Muslims, is a matter of soeculation. |
