| Woman cheater confesses involvement of several govt officials | | ‘More arrests likely in employment racket’ | | Early Times Reporter

Shafika Mir, who was arrested by Nowabad police last night in a hotel with large quantity of cash, on the complaint of some unemployed youths that the accused had exhorted money from them for arranging jobs, today made startling disclosures that she was in this illicit trade for last several years and duped many of the youth of lakhs of rupees on false promises. She is also reported to have disclosed that several government officials were also actively involved in the racket.
During the interrogation, Shafika Mir wife of Ali Mohammed Mir resident of Firdous Colony Bemina Srinagar, who is also running a NGO named Rural Development Relief Society, disclosed names of several others persons involved in the racket. The arrest of these accused is excepted any time, the sources revealed.
The arrested accused is reported to have confessed that she was in this trade for last several years and has duped a number of youth of lakhs of rupees by promising jobs to them but failed to arrange the same.
Sources said she took one lakh to five lakh of rupees from one person on assurance of providing job and had been assuring the people that she could arrange jobs for their children by using her influence as she was very close to some persons in the corridors of power. Sources said that during the interrogation she confessed that some more persons, including the government officials, were also involved with her in the racket, who often arranged some documents for the assurance of the people that they can easily arrange the jobs. Sources said during the interrogation police also found that the racketeer looted about one hundred youths in the state and earned crores of rupees, which was being shared by those connected with the racket.
When contacted, SSP Jammu Parminder Singh said that last night police on a complaint picked a lady from a hotel at Jewel Chowk here and recovered Rs.96,000 cash from her possession, besides a number of documents of unemployed youths, which she had collected from them along with the money.
The SSP said that a case of cheating has been registered against the lady and thorough investigating in the matter has been initiated. However, he did not rule out the arrest of some more persons in the case. She has been booked under Section 420 and 170 RPC at Nowabad police station.
According to the reports the accused cheater had been claiming herself as leader of Rajya Naujwan Shakti Party and at the same time telling the youths that she was a government officer. She was arrested by a police party from Nowabad police station led by SHO Inspector Kulbir Singh and the entire exercise was conducted meticulously under the supervision of Dy SP Bakshi Nagar M L Kaith.
This is not the first incident of its case when Jammu police arrested somebody for extorting money from the unemployed youths on the pretext of managing government jobs for them.
According to the sources the lady was arrested on a complaint lodged by Anwar Hussain son of Munshi Khan resident of Darhal, Rajouri who too had fell the victim of the accused cheater.
Sources said police is planning to send a team to Srinagar to pick up some more persons, including some government officials, whose names have been disclosed by the lady during the interrogation today. Sources said that during the interrogation, police also found out that the said lady has looted about 15-20 persons in the city and after her arrest some more complainants also visited the police station for verification of the lady. Sources said police has also found some more clues from the lady that this racket was also involved in other activities as well.
A senior police officer, when contacted, refused to divulge the details of the interrogation but confirmed that some more arrests are likely in this regard. The police is also studying the documents that were seized from the possession of the lady during her arrest. |
