| CM writes to Mufti | | PDP asked to name nominee for induction | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 1: Brightening the hopes of much awaited cabinet expansion, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has written to the Peoples Democratic Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to nominate one representative of his party for inclusion into the council of ministers. Sources said that the Chief Minister had written to Mufti on Thursday but a formal response from the Peoples Democratic Party is yet awaited. An informed source told EARLY TIMES that if Chief Minister does not hear anything from the PDP in due course of time he might go ahead with the expansion by inducting three Ministers of State from the Congress party. A senior Congress leader told EARLY TIMES that the cabinet expansion is dragging on due to the internal problems of the PDP which the Chief Minister can not help sorting out. He said though this time the Chief Minister has formally written to the Peoples Democratic Party for naming their nominee he has though informed the party several times that they should facilitate the cabinet expansion. Just to avoid any fresh controversy, the Chief Minister has so far been avoiding cabinet expansion as PDP was yet to clear the name of their nominee, said the Congress leader. However, with the things coming to little normal between the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, the cabinet expansion may take place soon and the PDP is learnt to be considering the name of former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig. 'As far as appointing a (PDP) nominee (for the ministerial berth) is concerned, that is more or less settled,' said a senior PDP leader. PDP, according to the sources, has decided that Baig will be its nominee for a cabinet berth. Baig was the finance and planning minister in the PDP-Congress coalition from November 2002 to November 2005 when the PDP handed over reins to the Congress. |
