Protests in Jaipur over chopping off Sikh boy's hair
8/22/2006 7:54:41 PM

Jaipur, Aug 22: A group of six miscreants allegedly chopped off the hair of a Sikh boy thereby sparking angry protests from the community which led to tension in some parts of the city, police said here today.

The situation in the Rajapark locality turned tense when the protestors asked shops and other business establishments in the area to close down, Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Shrotiya said.

According to an FIR lodged in the Gandhi Nagar Police station here late last night, 17-years-old Inderpreet Singh was taken away to an unknown place by some miscreants who allegedly chopped down his 'Jutta' and later manhandled him.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area to maintain calm and the situation was "tense but under control", Shrotiya said.

A police team led by Shrotiya has been asked to search the missing miscreants.
