| J&K at verge of follow on as Haryana make 404 in Ranji | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 2: Meek surrender by the openers Parminder Singh and Ian Dev Singh, both duck out, today brought J&K into a troublesome situation from where the comeback seems difficult after Haryana set a big target of 404 runs for the hosts to chase in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match underway at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here. Given a chance, Parminder Singh could not come up to the expectations of the selectors while the young man in the side, Ian Dev Singh too has not been able to justify his inclusion in the team as an opener. Except for a century against Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, this energetic cricketer has failed to even touch the double figure mark in last four innings he has played on the home wicket. Anyway, Arshad Bhatt played a superb knock of 52 off 82 balls with four boundaries. But eagerness on his part to hit the every ball, especially when the team was in need of a sensible innings from him, Arshad became victim of Amit Mishra, who spared no chance for the batsman to come in contact with the ball in an attempt to hit a back foot drive. Experienced batsman, Kavaljeet Singh too has not been able to provide the team the required support and was caught by Sunny Singh off Jitinder Billa on 15. Jitinder Billa, who emerged as most successful bowler of the day, bowled Majid Dar (3) to reduce J&K to 86 for five. When the stumps were drawn, Irshad Hassan and Pardeep Bali were at the crease with seven and three runs in their respective accounts. Earlier, Haryana resumed their innings from overnight score of 247 for four and both Sachin Rana and Sunil Vishawanathan had no difficulty in playing their shots. Both added 33 more runs to the team’s score before Sachin lost his wicket on 132. Soon after Sachin’s exit, Joginder Sharma too went to the pavilion when Samiullah Beigh bowled the star cricketer on duck. However, a patient innings of 54 from Amit Mishra off 83 balls including a six and seven boundaries helped Haryana built up a big total of 404 runs in 100.3 overs. While, skipper Vijay Sharma took one more wicket to make it four for 107 in 31 overs, Samiullah Beigh was the most successful bowler from J&K today with four for 99 in 30.3 overs.
