And this has made the youth here, victims of drug abuse on "large scale." Besides, violence experts attribute the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth in valley to the increasing trend of fragmentation of social institution. "The increasing trend of fragmentation of households and breakage of marriages are the primary reasons responsible the drug addiction among youth, besides stress and trauma they are going through because of violence," said a retired professor of psychology Dr Ghulam Hassan. He said the homes have lost the role of an institution and the disintegration of households has made youth to feel isolated and frustrated; which ultimately resort to drugs. The psychological doctor pleaded people for strengthening the home as an institution and said that laws alone cannot help to bring the menace of drug abuse under check. "All the sections of the society have to work in coordination to bring an end to this menace," he said. Dr Hassan added that out of frustration and stress, youth are luring towards drug abuse in absence of drug addiction centers. "Government should take strict measures to stop this rising abuse," he added. "Parents also have a role to keep watch on their children, and stop them from taking drugs". |
