| Azad’s father-in-law passes away | | Demise widely mourned; stream of mourners visit bereaved family, CM | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | December 2 Prominent Kashmiri Poet and Educationist Mohammad Abdullah Dev Nadeem passed away here last night. He was 77. Survived by six sons and two daughters including Shameem Dev Azad, noted singer, Padmashree Awardee and wife of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Late Mr. Dev was ailing for some time and breathed his last at 1:45 AM at his Hyderpora residence. Mr. Dev was a renowned educationist who has served the state education department and a retired as District Education Officer in 1986. Known for his mystic poetry, he published his poetic collection "Soz-e-Dil" in tow volumes which earned him acclaim in literary circles. He was known for his honesty, integrity, dedication and upright character. As the news of Mr. Dev's demise came in, people from all walks of life visited the deceased's family and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who had arrived at Hyderpora yesterday to condole the demise and share the family's grief. Prominent among those who visited bereaved family include former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Chairman Legislative Council Mr. G. N. Lone Hanjoora, Speaker Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand, Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Syeed, Minister for Agriculture Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar, Minister for Finance and Planning Mr. Tariq Hamed Karra, Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA Baramulla Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore, Chairman Handicraft Corporation Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Gaaru Ram, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Dr. Romesh Sharma and legislators Abdul Gani Vakil, Gurez Nazir Ahmad Gureze, Mr. Ashok Sharma, Chief Secretary Mr. B. R. Kundal, Director General of Police Mr. Kuldeep Khuda, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Ganai and Divisional Commissioner Mr. Mehboob Iqbal. Dev was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Magarmal Bagh here. A large number of people attended his Nimaz-e-Jinazah and the funeral rights. Later, a condolence meting was held at Hyderpora residence of Late Mr. Dev were speakers highlighted his qualities as a person, a poet and an officer of education department. He was described as multi-faceted personality who as a teacher and a poet left a lasting imprint on the minds of his students, colleagues and readers. Various literary circles and organizations as well as people associated with the spread of education in the state have mourned the death of Mr. Dev and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family. The officers and officials of State Information Department, Academy of Art, Culture and Languages also paid rich tributes to Mr. Dev. |
