| Visually impaired seeks welfare measures | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 3 Visually impaired person and students today organized an occasion to mark the International Handicap Day that falls today, at Louis Braille Memorial Residential School (Girls) Roop Nagar Jammu. Highlighting their issues and their early redressal the visually impaired person submitted a memorandum of demands to Chief Secretary of the State B R Kundal. Chief Secretary of the State B R Kundal who was the chief guest on this occasion expressed his solidarity and heartfelt sympathies to the handicapped people including visually impaired person. In his address chief guest B R Kundal in his address assured the gathering that some of their demands will be fulfilled if not the all demands. On this occasion he also announced the financial assistance of Rs 25,000/- to the host institute. Secretary Social Welfare (J&K) and Director Social Welfare Satish Nehru were also present on this occasion. The students as a part of the celebrations of the today’s occasion presented the cultural programme. Thereafter the members of host school submitted the memorandum highlighting their demands to the chief guest Chief Secretary J&K B R Kundal. The demands highlighted in the memorandum included construction of residential school complex, employment package as per the Handicapped Act VI of 1998 in government jobs, Reservation in education avenues like B Ed etc, Appointment in Class IV cadre, Reservation of Residential Plots for handicapped, enhancement of conveyance allowance to the handicapped employees and lastly the upgradation of speech and hearing therapy unit in SMGS hospital Jammu. |
