MUMBAI: One Pakistani national was killed in an encounter and another arrested by the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) from Antop Hill area of the city on Tuesday morning.
An AK-47 rifle and a sizeable quantity of RDX have also been seized, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Riyaz Nawabuddin, one of the two Pakistani nationals late Monday night. The ATS team went to the Central Government Scheme (CGS) colony in the Antop Hill area to apprehend his colleague who opened fire at them.
The ATS team then fired in retaliation in which the second Pakistani suspect, identified as Mohammed Ali alias Abu Osama, was killed.
Riyaz Nawabuddin will be produced in court later in the day, police officials said.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS) Jaijeet Singh, the encounter took place at around 4.30 am.
Asked if the encounter was linked to the July 11 serial train blasts in Mumbai, which had killed around 200 and injured over 700 persons, Singh declined to comment.
