| Student roasted alive as house caught fire | | | Sheikh Nasir Kishtwar | Dec 3 A ninth class student was roasted alive when a house caught fire in fire at Puchal area of Kishtwar, late on Sunday night. Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that two story residential house pf a villager, Jagdish Raj, caught fire and it engulfed the entire building within half an hour. The villagers, who noticed the smoke coming out of the house, rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire but the structure till than was in flames. Eyewitnesses told NAK that a ninth class student, who was sleeping inside the house, failed to save his life and was roasted alive in the devastating fire. Identified as 16 year old Sumit Bhagat, the deceased was sleeping in one of the room, when the house caught fire. Villagers attempt to save his life did not yield any result in the absence of fire tenders. Sources quoting eyewitnesses told said that the fire which suddenly erupted from the house could not be controlled resulting in complete damage to the house. However, the adjoining houses were saved by the villagers, they added. The civil and police administration who reached the spot immediately announced cash of rupees five thousand for the fire victim and later on the instructions of divisional commissioner an additional relief of Rs 1 lakh was sanctioned in favour of the family. The police and army also provide tents and cloths to the affected family, while local NGO's distributed utensils to them. |
