Jammu | Dec 3
In an unprecedented step by the Army ever in the history of Naushera and Jhangar, the Dah Division provided a platform to the youth of remote area to interact with their counterparts of Jammu, Naushera, Sunderbani and Rajouri in cultural and sports festival.
The SDM, Naushera Ramesh Chander said that it is the Army alone which can undertake such massive drives to educate and provide an exposure to the people on such large scale. He open heartedly praised the efforts of Dashmesh Paltan and Dah Division for having conducted such a large scale function to promote forgotten tenets of culture and other traditional sports in the region.
Two children of local villages were selected by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages after audition. A beamy eyed Sonika Sharma of Kalsian and Muzammal Shah of Lamberi were nearly in tears with happiness to have got a rare opportunity to perform on a giant stage in front of thousands of spectators which they said many have been their only opportunity in life.
The Naushera festival was conducted between November 29- December 3 by Dashmesh Paltan at Kalsiyan (Naushera) which had a visible effect in boosting the morale of School and College children along with the positive effect on civil military cooperation. Amongst the circles of the intellectuals and the senior citizens, participation of the masses in the event is being perceived as their defiance to the existence and threat by terrorist outfits and antinational elements.
A total of 61 Schools and Colleges apart from cultural societies, NGOs, talented individuals and village teams participated in the cultural and sports events and showcased their talents over five days. The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm could have created certain administrative problems for the organizers, however due to sheer foresight in planning the event was conducted with clockwork precision and smoothness. Major General Rajinder Singh, GOC Dah Division who conceptualized VIRASAT 2007, expressed his satisfaction and happiness that the aim of Naushera Festival has been achieved in totality.
It would be worth mentioning that large number of civil dignitaries who were present at the function remarked that VIRASAT 2007 will always be remembered by locals of the region as an unforgettable event. They were all amazed on the level and quality at which the event had been conducted. Only seeing it was believing !!
