| Commerce beats Science College in inter-college basketball | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 3: Government SPMR College of Commerce and the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University of Jammu won their respective matches to advance into the next round of inter-college basketball (men) competitions which started today at the Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu, here. It is for the first time that inter-college basketball competitions are being organized at the wooden floored indoor hall of the University using the international standard infrastructure provided to University of Jammu by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). In the first match of the day, Commerc College defeated GGM Science College 25-20 (ht 13-8). Tushar Dogra remained the top scorer from winners Commerce College with 13 points while Sachin and Rohi contributed 6 points each for Science College. The second match was won by PG Departments who beat Degree College Kathua 37-30 (ht 15-14). In was Rajan Tak who scripted PG Departments’ big win added 29 points to the total while Varuneshwar contributed maxium of 11 points to tally of Kathua College. Meanwhile, other three scheduled matches could not take place in the absence of opponent teams resulting into the organizers awarded walkovers. Dogra Law College walkover Degree College Reasi while MAM College (Evening) got walkover Degree College Akhnoor. Law School got walkover Degree College Udhampur and Trikuta College awarded walkover Degree College Rajouri. Today’s matches were officiated by Mohd Shafi, Manoj Kumar, Harpreet Singh and Ajay Singh. Earlier, the competitions were declared open by the Director Physical Education, Prof Lokesh Verma, who was accompanied by the officials of the Department and a host of other guests from participating colleges. |
