| SKAUST scientist visit block Garhi | | | Early Times Reporter Udhampur | Dec 3 Under the village visit and stay programme of the SKUAST scientists from various disciplines of agriculture and veterinary visited village Chak Rakwalan in block Garhi of Udhampur district here today block having a population of 4000 souls and cultivated area of 562ha. The major crops of the area are Wheat, Rice, Potato, Pea, Carrot and sugarcane with maize-Wheat being the major cropping systems of the village. The team interacted with farmers, sarpanch of the village and field functionaries of agriculture department. The farmers of the area highlighted various problems like non-availability of irrigation resources, timely availability of agriculture crops and livestock diseases. Scientist advised the farmers to use insitu moisture conservation practice and harvest rain water were advised to contact state horticultural department or division of Pomology SKUAST-Jammu for procuring horticultural planting materials. They were also advised to use weedicides for control of noxious weeds like Parthenium sps and Ageratum conyzoides. Proper and timely vaccination of livestock was advised for preventing various disease of the scientist. The member of team were Dr. M.M. Zama, Dr. Sanjay Guleria, Dr. Vijay Bharti, Dr. S.K.
