Fiery Valley: Non stop fire incidents hot up Kashmir winters
12/4/2007 9:37:49 PM

Jammu | Dec 4
Today’s news item ‘8 houses, 8 cowsheds, 2 shops gutted in fire’ or ‘the historic trade center gutted in Kashmir’ on the other day would not surprise any one as the fire incidents has made the Kashmir to face the heat even during the chilly winters of December month despite facing snow falls.
Telltales about snowfall, showers and then a long awaited sun unfortunately has paved a way to fire incidents in the valley as per sources so far as approximately over thousands cases of major and minor fires have been reported with in the valley distracting people from conventional experiences to the ‘fiery experiences.’
Although the dry spell in Kashmir came to an end on November 30, much to the joy of people of Kashmir who experienced s slight drizzle followed by a light rain-fall on the same day while the upper reaches experienced the season's first snowfall.
The change in the weather though has brought much needed respite to the people not only in valley but across the state who were witnessing a dry spell –which is described as season of ‘diseases and ailments’. People were viewing the dry-type weather pattern over the last many weeks with cynicism as it had brought many seasonal crops under its sway, filled with health hazards like dry cough and also forcing the water level going down resultant to water problems. ‘But why the rains were welcomed had one another reason that the valley was witnessing ‘a horrid sequel of the fire incidents’ for the last two months.
If one simply turn over the pages of the local news papers and wil certainly find one or two items related to fire incidents in the valley. Even the Police Media Cell too is dotted with the reported fire incidents and fire related damages in the valley. Infact the dry spell has led to a rise in the number of fires in the Valley and over the last two months more than 1400 fire incidents occurred across Kashmir, sources said.
This sequel of fire incidents has set a tongue wagering across the various circles of the society in the valley while some hardliner parties are alleging the high handedness of belt forces in these fire incidents. Within the allegations and conter allegations this ‘blame game’ has also reasoned the fire incidents as self invited for being ‘the chill and the fire having a close affinity’ the people who keep firewood and room heaters on for long hours is resulting into such fires causing short circuits and unnoticed burning coal both resulting into uninvited fire incidents. Whatever the reason be the frequent fire incidents have kept the fire-tenders and fire fighters on their heels and snowy Kashmir to face the heat of fires in chill of December.
