| Encounter between militants and police started in Awantipora | | | Early Times Reporer Srinagar | Dec 4 In the wee hours today an encounter between militants and a joint party of Police and CRPF started at Ladhermud Awantipora. Till last reports the encounter was on. As per police reports, Awantipora has received specific information regarding the presence of militants at Ladermud, on which an operation they launched an operation along with CRPF. Police said that militants opened up indiscriminate fire on the police party, when police tried to motivate them for surrender. During the firing one police constable sustained injuries. Meanwhile, Handwara police has arrested one LeT militant who as per police was providing mobile phones, SIM Cards and other logistic support to the militants hiding in Handwara forests. SP Handwara, Dr. Haseeb Mughal said that acting on specific information, they arrested Ghulam Hassan Mir of Wuder Bala Handwara, "who is a local trained LeT militant". A Case FIR No. 274/2007, under section 18 ULA has been registered against the accused in Police Station Handwara and investigation has taken up. "We also recovered a Nokia set, three Pherans, five Bottles of Nivon, one bottle of Gun oil and five liters of oil and several candles and match boxes from the accused which was to be transported to militants," added Mughal. He revealed that there were reports that the above said individual was providing food grains, Mobile sets, SIM Cards and logistic support to the militants hiding in the forests and was conducting LeT cadres in Rajwar area. SP Handwara stated that the said person was main supplies provider of these militants and there was every apprehension that these militants may cause damage to Police, Security Forces in Wuder Bala, Nachhama, Changmulla, Rajwar and Handwara areas.
