| Jammu and Kashmir to streamline distribution of food grains | | | Srinagar, Aug 22: In order to streamline the distribution system of food grains in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government is contemplating engaging more salesmen on contractual basis in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department.
"Due to the retirement of most of the storekeepers over the past few years, it has become imperative to engage salesmen on contractual basis," CAPD Minister Hakim Mohammad Yaseen said.
He said the matter has been taken up with chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. The Minister also said the state government would launch a massive awareness programme to educate people about their rights under the consumer acts.
For the purpose, seminars would be organised in educational institutions besides strengthening of state consumer forum and setting up of forums at district and tehsil levels.
The Minister asked the public not to buy rotten rice from the public distribution system outlets and added that strict instructions have been issued to authorities to return such rice to the Food Corporation of India. |
