Jammu | Dec 4: For Ankita, a class 6 student in a local private school, going to her class will never be same experience again as she got her hand fractured by the baton of her teacher.
An innocent Ankita, a student of Activity Higher Secondary School in Janipur, was not keeping well for past few months, though she was attending her school regularly. When she was put to a class test, for being unwell since quite sometime, she was not able to fair well as other her classmates did.
Yesterday when the results of her class test were out, she could obtain only six marks out of 15. This did not go well with the teacher who was too keen to improve overall result of school rather than understanding the problem of poor Ankita.
The teacher, Poonam, broke loose on the student started beating her up in the class. The innocent student was beaten so mercilessly that four of her fingers were broken and hand was fractured.
Ankita went home writhing with pain but she did not tell her mother as what all had happened in the school. She says that she was scared of telling anything to the mother fearing that mother too may beat her for fairing poor in the examination. However, when pain went unbearable, she narrated the whole school story to the mother.
When mother approached the school authorities, they did not hear any of her. Instead, the school authorities said that the girl already had a problem in her hand and when teacher mildly charged her with stick, the existing problem complicated. Ankita's mother says that her daughter never had any such problem.
Finally the mother approached the local Police station which indeed was not quite forthcoming in taking cognizance of the issue. However, when police casually asked the school authorities about the case, the Principal, to ward off the matter, said that they are terminating the teacher.
Ankita's mother says that this is not they had wanted. "We don't want the teacher to be sacked. Our grievance is that first the student should not have been beaten up like that and if that had happened the school authorities should have shown a little courtesy to call on the parents", she says.
