| Kashmir gun battle ends; 2 LeT militants, 2 soldiers killed | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Dec 5:Two Lashker-e-Toiba militants and two army jawans were killed and three others including a constable of Jammu and Kashmir police were injured in an encounter which started last evening at Ladhermud village of Sangam area of Awantipora in South Kashmir. Police spokesman quoting S P Awantipora, Sardar Khan told News Agency of Kashmir that overnight fire-fight between the militants and Jammu Kashmir police, ended this morning. Two foreign militants were gunned down while two army jawans also died in the gun fight, he added. "The gun fight which lasted for more than 12 hours ended with the killing of two foreign militant", police sources told NAK adding. 'All the civilians were safely evacuated from the area in order to ensure their protection before the militants were engaged,' the sources added. "The initial reports which came to fore said that the militants killed belong to the Lashker-e-Toiba militant out", a police spokesman said. Giving the details of the encounter, Police spokesman told NAK that on specific information regarding presence of militants at Ladhermud Awantipora Police along with CRPF launched a search operation and cordoned the targeted area. He said while Police reached the target area, militants opened indiscriminate firing on the police party during which one police constable sustained injuries, he added. The injured constable was identified as Mohammad Imran Lone number 315/IR 1st was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment and reinforcement from 55 RR was also sought. "2 army jawans of 55 RR were also killed, while a policeman and a CRPF jawan were injured in the encounter", the spokesman added. Meanwhile, Lashkar-e-Toiba spokesman Dr Abdullah Gaznavi in telephonic statement to NAK claimed the responsibility and said that the gunfight started when security forces raided the hideout where five of its caders were present. He said two other militants who were trapped in a cordon were fighting till last reports. |
