| State volleyball: Jammu, Poonch, Udhampur make fine start | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 4: Boys from Jammu, Poonch and Udhampur districts made a fine start winning two matches each in their respective groups on the opening day of the 20th State (Junior boys and girls) Volleyball Championships at Mini-Stadium, Parade, here today. Girls from these three districts too won their pool matches to show their dominance on other participating districts. In boys section, Jammu had to undergo a close contest after Kathua and Pulwama showed resistance before losing their games by two sets to one. Whereas, Poonch and Udhampur had easy straight sets wins. In all, 11 teams in boys section and 10 in girls category are taking part in this league cum knockout competitions following the guidelines of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI). This championship is being organized by the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council. Earlier, the four-day long championship was declared open by the Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda in a well attended function. Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Narinder Singh was guest of honour in the inaugural function. Prominent among those present were president Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA), Rangil Singh, general secretary JKOA, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, SSP Jammu Parminder Singh and Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma. The detailed results: BOYS: Jammu bt Kathua 2-1 (24-26, 25-15, 15-11); Poonch bt Budgam 2-0 (25-9, 25-11); Anantnag bt Rajouri 2-0 (25-16, 25-20); Udhampur bt Baramulla 2-0 (25-23, 25-18); Jammu bt Pulwama 2-1 (25-14, 23-25, 15-9); Poonch bt Srinagar 2-0 (25-13, 25-21); Kathua bt Anantnag 2-0 (25-6, 25-14); Udhampur bt Anantnag 2-0 (25-11, 25-14). GIRLS: Jammu bt Kathua 2-0 (25-11, 25-10); Udhampur bt Rajouri 2-0 (25-13, 25-10); Srinagar bt Badgam 2-0 (25-13, 25-19); Poonch bt Baramulla 2-0 (25-14, 25-4). |
