Jammu | Dec 4: Pacer Muddassar and spin bowler, Manik Gupta today snatched the victory from the jaws of Tripura beating latter by 13 runs in the Chooch Behar under-19 cricket league match played at Patiala in Punjab.
Needing 48 runs with four wickets in hand to win with a full fourth day’s play remaining, Tripura could not sustain and pressure build up by two front line bowlers of J&K, Muddassar and Manik Gupta. The last four wickets fell for 34 runs to make an end to Tripura innings at 177 runs in less than two hours of play today.
Muddassar bagged two wickets to emerge as most successful bowler with five wicket haul while Manik took four.
“Fighting back from follow on to a win happens rare in cricket, especially when we talk of Jammu and Kashmir. It is really a commendable job done by the young lot, who have made the state proud,” manager of the team, AH Kazmi told Sports & Allied News on telephone.
It is pertinent to mention here that following the first innings total of Tripura, J&K innings ended at a small total of 77 to follow on. However, the way the team fought back as a unit with everyone contributing to the score thereby making an unbeleavble total of 388 runs.
Now, it was the turn of bowlers to salvage a win from almost lost match. With just 177 runs away from a win with one and half day play remaining Tripura batting line up could not face the bowling wrath of Muddassar and Manik Gupta as both together shared nine wickets and the whole side bowled out for 177 runs.
“Realising that they have done something wrong in the first innings, the boys played as a unit in the second innings with batsmen making their contributions and bowlers doing their duty,” coach of the team Shivan Lal told SAN.
It was J&K’s second victory in the three matches. Earlier they defeated Railways by eight wickets and then lost to Jharkhand. Now, in the fourth match, to be played at the same venue, J&K shall take on Goa on December 8.
