| NC founder remembered, various pay tributes | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Srinagar | Dec 5 Former Chief Minister and founder of the National Conference, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was fondly remembered by party workers and leaders on his 102nd birth anniversary here today. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, and workers assembled at the graveyard of the Sheikh on the bank of Dal lake since early morning and offered 'Fatiha' (special prayers). Dr. Abdullah released the second edition of the autobigraphy of the Sheikh -- Aatish-e-Chinar -- on the occasion. He said the autobigraphy of his father will enable younger generations to know about the history of the state and Sheikh's contribution in its development. The book's first edition was released in 80's. Several Congress activists including Mohammad Sultan and National Panthers Party leader, Bashir Ahmed Khatoo, were among those who paid homage. Former BJP leader, Din Mohammad Chetta, re-joined the NC on the occasion. He was associated with the party before joining the BJP in 1996. Welcoming Chetta into the party, Abdullah claimed many prominent individuals in Jammu were waiting in wings to join the NC. Party president, Omar Abdullah, however, was not present as he is abroad. At Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban while describe him as tallest leader of the state politics who remains in the minds and hearts of common masses. The reforms brought out by Sher-e-Kashmir, including the reforms for farmers' and downtrodden sections of the society were landmark and have no comparison till day. They said and added. "We salute to the dynamic personality of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah who is still remembered as greatest reformist who lived with a slogan of 'Hindu-Muslim-Sikh Itehaad'. Earlier, Quran Khani and Fateh Khowani was also organised at the party office, where eatables were distributed among the poor. Several functions were organised in other parts of the region including Doda, Bhaderwah, Ramban and Banihal to celebrate the birth anniversary. The leaders and party workers pledge to carry forward the mission started by the Sher-e-Kashmir. The function at Doda was held under the leadership of Khalid Najeeb, while in Ramban Neela Shaheen led the function and at Kishtwar senior party leader Jalal-ud-Din Qazi paid tributes to late leader. At Bishnah, NC workers led by block president Sham Lal Sadotra paid rich tributes to Late Shiekh Mohd Abdullah. Janakraj Sharma on the occasion re-called Shiekh’s services for the upliftment of down trodden people. Z.A Bhatti, Chairman All India Mahatma Gandhi foundation describe late Shiekh Abdullah a great political leader of the state, who throughout his life strived for the strengthening communal harmony and laid foundation for democratic set up in the state. Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma has paying tributes to former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah recalled contribution of late leader in setting the stage for democratic set up in the state. He said the late leader was the front role leader of the state who facilitated state’s accession with Union of India. The Minister also recalled contribution of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in introducing single line administration and Land-Reforms Act to liberate the farmers from clutches of oppressive feudal. Recalling his association with the great leader, Minister said the greatest contribution of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was his lifelong endeavour for strengthening communal brotherhood in line with rich traditions of Kahsmiriyat. Ex-MLA Mr. Shiv Dev Singh has also paid tributes to late legendry leader. |
