| BJP protests Govt’s refusal to provide security to leaders campaigning in Pooch poll | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 5 Senior BJP leaders have criticized the state Government for not providing much needed security cover to the party leaders who wanted to campaign for the candidate in Pooch Assembly constituency byelection. The polling in the constituency will take place on December 12. Days before senior BJP leaders, led by Dr Nirmal Singh, had to visit Pooch for campaigning the Party President,Ashok Khajuria, had written to the Government to provide security to Dr Nirmal Singh and other leaders who were touring Pooch from December 5.The BJP leaders were to spend five days in Poonch constituency. When contacted Dr Nirmal Singh said today “I have crossed Rajouri on my way to Pooch without any security cover.” He said while even unknown leaders belonging to the Congress, the PDP and the National Conference were being provided with security cover. Dr Singh said “we condemn the Government policy of pick and choose in the matter of providing security cover.” He said it was very unfortunate that a senior Buddhist leader and member Parliament, Chewang Thupstan, was not being provided required security cover and a bullet proof car. He stated that the leadership of the state unit of the BJP will convey its strong protest to the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, because the centre has been bearing the entire security related expenses in Jammu and Kashmir and hence it was the duty of the union Home Minister to take cognizance of the state Government’s policy of providing security cover only to its favourites. |
