| Dr Kabir to represent India in BIMSTEC Expert Group Meeting at Thialand | | | SRINAGAR, AUGUST 22 - Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar Director Indian System of Medicine (ISM) and (AYUSH) J&K would represent the country in the first BIMSTEC Expert Group Meeting on the Network of National Centers of Excellence in Traditional Medicine Development scheduled to be held from 29th of August at Bangkok, Thialand. The Bay of Bengal initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Educational Cooperation envisages setting up of a network of National Centers of excellence of promote traditional medicine and generic drugs for the people of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Srilanka, Thialand and India. The seven countries under ABIMSTEC are cooperating in the areas of traditional Medicine Knowledge Management, Human Resource Development, Integration and provision of traditional medicine service in the national health systems, herbal medicine products development, regulatory issues regarding practitioners and products and protection of traditional medicine knowledge under public health in additional to other sector like Tourism, Transport and communications, energy, fisheries etc. The two-member delegation led by Dr. Kabir shall negotiate a common set of priorities is defining a programme of cooperation including sharing of information, exchange of expert, development of plans of action and collaborate in programs on traditional medicine of the South Asian Regional Office (SEARO) of the world Health Organization. The delegation will be discussing the plan of action with the representatives of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Srilanka and Thialand on the visit to these countries. Nomination of Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar, Director is the recognition of the efforts of the Director in reorganizing the department in the state and his exemplary leadership qualities. Development of Medicinal Plants sector in the state which hither to had remained unorganized and secretive is also being developed as an industry in the state. Experts in the fields believe that the nomination of dr. Kabir is expected to bring the state on the map of international market. |
