| Sharp differences within ruling MC over according welcome to Nawaz Sharif | | News from PoK | | Muzaffarabad | Dec 6: The media in PoK and even Pakistan had reported about sharp differences cropping up in the ruling Muslim Conference in PoK, over according reception to former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Sharif, who was scheduled to pay a day long visit to Muzaffarabad on Wednesday to meet and console the people affected in the earthquake that rocked many parts of Kashmir and PoK on October 8 2005. A section of vernacular press in Muzaffarabad had carried a statement of minister for works in Pak occupied Kashmir, Raja Naseem Khan, where he was quoted as saying that the government would accord a warm welcome to Sharif as a mark of respect and recognition for all those who express solidarity with the October 2005 earthquake victims. But the minister is later reported to have denied having issued any such statement after appearing of the reports that PoK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan had asked his supporters to stay away from any program held in connection with the visit of Nawaz Sharif. When questioned by a section of media, the Acting PoK Prime Minister Malik Mohammad Nawaz is stated to have avoided giving a clear picture about their stand on the visit of Nawaz Sharif to PoK capital. He is reported to have said that Mian Sharif did not contact us or informed us about his visit. Had he told us in time we would have arranged some reception in his honour, since he happens to be a former Prime Minister of the country and his visit was to express solidarity with the earthquake victims. However, on the other hand some ruling party legislators including Raja Farooq Haider and Noreen Arif and former ministers Raja Abdul Qayyum and Mufti Mansood were reported to be actively engaged in preparations to accord rousing reception to Nawaz Sharif. Haider who is also a senior Muslim Conference Vice President had stated that he would lead a procession to Kohala at the PoK border with Pakistan to welcome Sharif. Separately, the Peoples Muslim League of former PoK Prime Minister, Barrister Sultan Mehmood had also chalked out programmes to welcome Sharif. The party has long been striving for it to become a part of Pakistan Muslim League (N), which is headed by Nawaz Sharif. |
