| State to have district consumer forums soon: Taj | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 6 Reiterating the commitment of his government to protect the rights of consumers, Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din has said that consumer courts have to play a pivotal role in strengthening the movement in the state. The Minister said this while reviewing functioning of various consumer courts at a meeting here today. The meeting also had a thread bare discussion on the prospects of setting up district consumer forums. While haling the functioning of the quasi judicial system, the Minister said that like else where in the world consumerism has emerged as a full scale movement in the state. He said the movement primarily envisages that the executive gets a proper and chanalized feed back about the quality of services and goods so that strict laws could be made to protect the rights of the consumers. Announcing that the State Consumer Commission complexes would be constructed in the twin capitals, he said at Srinagar the building would be constructed in the premises of Direction office of CAPD department while in Jammu a piece of land on the backyard of Hotel Asia has been identified for the purpose. The Minister asked the Secretary CAPD to explore the provision for fund allotment by the Union government for creation of assets for consumer courts in 11 th Plan. The Minister sought help of judiciary in securing services of district and session judges/additional district and session judges to work as presidents of consumer courts in the is Ex-officio capacity. Among others the meeting was attended by President State Consumer Commission (Retd.) Justice G.D.Sharma, President Divisional Forum Jammu Mr. Khalid Hussain, Commissioner Secretary CAPD Mr. Khalid Habib, Member Divisional Forum Kashmir Mr. Pandita, Director CAPD Kashmir Mr. Abdul Majid Mir, Incharge Director CAPD Jammu Mehmood Rana, Additional Secretary CAPD D.R.Sharma and Deputy Secretary CAPD Sheikh Mukhtar. |
